The Council of Ministers in Suriname, declared February 25^th, the day of the Revolution (1980) a national holiday as of 2011.  February 25^th was a public holiday from 1981 to 1987.  On this day in 1980, a group of 16 junior National Army officers, including the current President, Desi Bouterse, overthrew the then government of Suriname.  Check the newspapers for events taking place in downtown Paramaribo to celebrate this controversial public holiday.
